10 Most Enigmatic Places on Earth

January 6, 2013 Leave a comment

I am sure all of you must have heard about various locations in the world but what I bring to you is a list of places about which there are still speculations and their existence is not entirely logical so to speak.

So compiled here is a list of some of the most enigmatic places on earth. Do share your thoughts in comment section.

Machu Picchu

This is one of the most preserved places of Peru and was apparently built in 1450 CE

This place is famous for the three temples and the wall that surrounds them. The wall is built with the Stone of the Pregnant Woman, some of them weighing as much as 1000 tons!

Easter Island

It is famous for the stone structures that are present there. Some that weigh more than 86 tons. There were actually so many of these structures that they were later moved onto the perimeter of the island and places upon stone slabs!

Built in 2500 BC, the Stonehenge is one of the most amazing prehistoric monuments. It has been remodeled quite a lot but it still maintains the same spell bounding factor in itself!

The pyramid of Ghiza and Sphinx

Although the pyramids have been the center of attention for quite sometime now, one still wonders and gets awed at the spectacular magnificence of these structures and what maths would have been involved when coming up with them!

Underwater ruins of Japan

In 1995 a swimmer in Japan went further across the shore and found what appeared to be a whole lot of man made structures under the water that were found to be 5000 years old! Amazing isn’t it!

The Stone Spheres

Since the 1930′s in Costa Rica, archeologists have been coming across these stone spheres in all different sizes and some as heavy as 16 tons!

Chichen Itza

This is supposed to be the place where the famous Mayan civilization presented the rain God with still-beating human hearts as part of a ritual of theirs. The same civilization that predicted the end of the world in 2012. Creepy eh!

This particular structure in Bolivia is famous particularly because it has been standing for 17000 years now and apparently was made using some technology that no longer exists! Interesting I say!

The Nazca Lines

Considered to be one of the most amazingly mysterious places in the world, the Nazca lines in Peru are these huge pictures made in the plains apparently drawn by some giant hand. Given their form, they are certainly not man made!

You know how sometimes one finds themselves in a certain country or a city and has no idea where to go and what to see? Well, incase you are planning to go to Scotland anytime soon (which I would personally highly recommend based on personal experience) then I have just the thing for. Skim through the pictures below and you will be shocked to see how intrigued you actually are by the time you reach the end of the list.

Kelvin Grove Art Gallery

Art galleries do not come as pretty as this one, the Kelvin Grove Art Gallery. If you are an admirer of art then this place would be a breath taking haven for you. The architecture, the built of it, the ambiance, it is all simply spell bounding. I bet you, you’ll be lost before you know, in a good sense that is.

Melrose Abbey

If you are in the mood of visiting a romantic ruin then the abbey is the place for you. Melrose Abbey is considered to be one of the hottest tourist spot and although now it is just a ruin, it is touted as one of the most beautiful buildings in Scotland. A must see for all the love birds on a honeymoon! Love is actually felt in the air, kudos to the history of the place of course!

The Island of Arran and Orkney

The place is definitely as must see for all visitors. The island is situated in the cold sea of Scotland and is keeper of the most secret of all Scottish history. Beautiful landscape and a lot of scenic locations make this a wonderland for tourists!

Holyrood Palace

Isn’t the palace just breathtaking even in a picture? This is the residence of the King of Scotland and if you haven’t visited this place, you haven’t really visited Scotland. The place is used for all the royal celebrations and official gatherings and rightfully so i say!

Edinburgh Castle

So one end of a mile has the Holyrood Palace and at the other end you have the Edinburgh Castle and this is one mile that will take you atleast a week to complete because it is filled with various attractions on either sides! I would like to repeat here that if you haven’t seen this, you haven’t been to Scotland! It is such a sight to behold at night specially.

Glasgow Science Center

This is one of those locations that were given a five star rating as far as tourist attractions are concerned! The place has over 200 amazing exhibits, hold various workshop and exhibitions, and even for non-science people, it is massively attractive!

Edinburgh Zoo

So I know you might say that “oh all the zoo’s are nearly the same” and true that I say. But you really need to visit the Edinburgh Zoo to know that difference! It has nearly all animals that you can imagine off! A beautiful place to see!

Eilean Donan

This little island that is known as Eilean Donan, is connected to the mainland via a footbridge. This castle that rests on Eilean Donan is one of the most photographed places and structures in all of Scotland and once you visit it, you will know exactly why. Perhaps no other place can offer you such a euphoria, its exhilarating.

Loch Ness

A trip to Scotland will be complete if you miss out the oppurtunity to witness with your own eyes, the resting place of the legendary monster of Loch Ness. Yes, you guessed right, it is Loch Ness itself, something that deserves a thorough observation!

Luskentyre Beach

Last but definitely not the least, the Luskentyre Beach. Nature in its purest and more serene form is at your service. After a day of roaming around, cool off in the crisp waters under and endlessly blue sky. Trust me, this beach is all you will be needing if its relaxation that you are looking for, your very own Nirvana!
